Career Events
FPA of Illinois annually co-hosts Career Nights with two of our partners: Northwestern and DePaul Universities. They are well attended by students in the registered programs at the universities and representatives from sponsoring organizations. The evenings feature a reception, presentations from each of the companies attending and time for students and sponsors to network and meet one on one. Each partner gives a brief presentations about their firm, their business model and what they look for in new candidates. The benefits of FPA membership are also explained to the students.
The companies that have attended these events include: Ameriprise, Antares Investments, AXA Advisors, Country Insurance and Financial Services, Edward Jones, Fidelity Investments, Financial Network, Lincoln Advisors, Lincoln Park Financial, Mass Mutual, Merrill Lynch, MetLife, Morgan Stanley, New England Financial, Northwestern Mutual, Prudential Financial, Smith Barney/Citigroup, State Farm Insurance and Wachovia Securities. Approximately 20% of the students have found positions after attending the career nights.
Career Day Planned
FPA of Illinois is planning a Career Day for Friday September 28, 2007, 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Cafe LaCave in DesPlaines, IL
The Career Day will provide financial planners, employers, students, and those interested in pursuing financial planning as a career to talk and network. Employers will be interviewing for interns and career positions. Students and those considering a career change can come, learn about the financial planning career choice, talk with financial planners, prospective employers, and “learn the ropes” during several panel sessions.
